The Triumph Bonneville was THE machine of the 1960´s.
First of the Bonneville was the 1959 model and those
pre-unit Bonnevilles were made until 1962.
From 1963 the Bonnevilles becam better and better until Triumph changed the frame and motor from 1971.
The Bonnevilles made during the period from 1963 to 1970 are real collector bikes.
The best versions are the 1968 - 1970 Bonnevilles T120R,
made for the USA and other Export Markets.
Similar models from the Bonnevilles made 1968 to 1970 for the UK Market looks like " Cheap Economical Versions ".

Among the Triumph productions today You can find Classic Bikes.
The Bike on this photo is a Triumph Bonneville T100 made 2006, and is meant to look like a Bonneville from the 1960´s.
If we look at this bike, I can agree with Triumph that a few parts are looking like the Triumph Bonnevilles from the 1960´s.

The spoke forward and back wheel together with the petrol tank, can be accepted to look like from the 1960´s.

The " Main " part from the engine, beside the carburettors, the aircleaning equipment and the exhaust system, might be OK.

As it looks, this new type of engines on the New Bonnevilles seems a lot better compared to what Triumph fitted back to the 1960´s.
But most of the other parts on this New Bonneville does not look like the 1960´s.

The back part from the bike with the fender, backlamp, seat,.......
Triumph, this is not the style from the Bonnevilles from the 1960´s.

The exhaust system and the carburettors.
They are not only looking bad, also the function can be much better.

The front part of the New Bonneville.
No it is not looking like the 1960´s, must be possible to make
better.
But, with all above faults on the New Bonnevilles, it is still the only bike today to buy if You wish to have a New Classic Bike from the 1960´s era.

On coming photoes I will show how we here in Sweden during the winter 2007/2008 rebuilt above Triumph Bonneville T100-2006, to becam like an Old Triumph Bonneville T120R - from 1968 to 1970.

My idea was to rebuilt above New Triumph Bonneville to a modern
" Triumph Bonneville T120R ". Almost as good and almost as beutiful as the originals from 1968 to 1970.

When the bike was ready, it becam even better and even more beutiful than the originals.
This is the result.

As You can see, we are a lot closer to a Triumph Bonneville from the 1960´s compared to what Triumph built.

Our Triumph Bonneville has still 2 things different against the originals from 1968 to 1970.
1. The new engine.
I really prefer this new engine, better to drive with, no oilleak, more power, less reperations.
2. The disc brakes.
Much better to drive with, possible to stop the bike quick.
This is the result.

Let us look at the main things we changed when we rebuilt this Triumph Bonneville from 2006 to look like the originals from 1968 to 1970.

The handlebar is changed against a wider one, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.

Original handlebar is not wide enaugh, and the only thing You see in the mirrors is Your self.
Rubber Bellows for the fork, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
Stainless front Fender, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
Metall strip in the middle of the petrol tank, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.

Changed the front flashing indicators against a small cromed model.
Seat, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
Higher profil on the back tyre, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.

Moved down the footrests for the passanger, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.

Mounted original backlamp from Triumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
Modified the original backlamp from Triumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970, and built in the flashing indicators .
Stainless back Fender, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.

Strengthen for the back Fender in combination with the backlamp, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.

Modified the back dampers, same as on Thriumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
Changed the petrol crane against a model without leakage.
Mounted a better type from carburettors.
Triumph mounted a type from vacuum carburettors on those new Bonnevilles, and this limited the fun to drive a lot.
I have changed those against the same type of carburettors as sitting on Triumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970, but of course a newer and better model, with wires operating direct on the trottels.
At the same time I changed the airfilters to a normal model from airfilters, the same type as sitting on Triumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970, but of course a newer and better model.
With those new carburettors and the airfilters, we becam the old sound from the carburettors, like from Triumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
Changed the exhaust system to the same type as sitting on Triumph Bonneville T120R from 1968 to 1970.
After I changed the carburettors, airfilters together with the exhaust system, the engine works better.
Now the engine can breathe.
The power has increased around 20 Ps.
The sound is brilliant.
Up to 4´500 r.p.m. it sound like a Triumph Bonneville from the 1960´s.
On higher r.p.m. it sound like a tuned up Triumph Bonneville from the 1960´s.
